In
addition to the traditional rugs with a dark basis and lighter thick
and thin stripes, one can also find models with geometrical figures:
rhombi, triangles, trapezoids. Natural elements - flowers, animals,
stars, and others - are also very popular. Red colours in combination
with black are most typical for local textiles. Blue, green, white
and - less commonly - pink and yellow, are used skillfully. The
basic principle of design is to reproduce light motifs on dark stripes
(black or dark red).

Colours
can tell the origin of a textile down to the very village. The women
of Lazhnitsa use few colours while those of Breznitsa and Kornitsa
use colours generously. The combination of orange, white, pink, dark
blue, green, black and light yellow is typical of the Rhodoppi villages.
The special composition of colours distinguishes the rugs of Dolen,
Pletena and Satovcha from the others… |
